The Tuk M18 gas discovery was made in 2002 by Devon and Petro Canada. Development stalled alongside the Mackenzie Valley Gas Pipeline. An Indigenous corporation, Inuvialuit Petroleum Corporation, acquired the field in July 2022 with plans to make Tuk M18 the anchor upstream supply for the Inuvialuit Energy Security Project.
