Turgai Petroleum, a 50:50 JV between LUKOIL and PetroKazakhstan, is the operator of the Kumkol North and East Kumkol fields in the South Turgai Basin. PetroKazakhstan is the dominant operator in the South Turgai Basin, with a majority stake in most key fields. Turgai Petroleum's largest asset is Kumkol North, the northern portion of the large Kumkol field. Production began in 1995 and peaked in 2007 at 72,500 b/d. The field has since been in rapid decline.
