Turkmenistan breaks ground on ambitious TAPI pipeline
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
The groundbreaking ceremony for the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) pipeline was held on 13 December. This marks the start of construction on the Turkmen section of the pipeline which is proposed to deliver 3.2bcfd of gas from Turkmenistan's super-giant Galkynysh (South Iolotan) field to Fazilka in northwest India. While the project is of strategic importance to Turkmenistan, as a means to diversify gas export markets, key concerns around financing and security mean TAPI may not be fully realised.
