Report summary
Despite being located between hydrocarbon-rich countries Brazil and Argentina, Uruguay does not produce any oil or gas. Periodic exploration, mainly onshore, has taken place over the decades, but no discoveries have been made. Uruguay is heavily dependent on hydrocarbon imports to meet its domestic energy requirements, a situation that the government is keen to change.
