What can we learn from recent North Sea project delivery?
Report summary
A record number of North Sea oil and gas projects are reaching FID in 2022. Against a background of capacity constraints and intensifying cost inflation, delivery will be as crucial than ever. In this insight, we revisit nearly 50 upstream projects across UK and Norway developed since the 2014 price crash. By comparing estimates at FID to how these projects look today, we answer the following questions: How has project delivery fared since the early 2010s? What factors linked the 'good' and the 'bad' projects? Does successful project delivery guarantee positive returns? What are the key messages for future developers?
