Grand Baie was the first in a series of modern smelters built by Alcan in Québec. Alcan could possibly have added another line at Grand Baie, but the configuration of the casthouse made the addition of a parallel line suboptimal. Instead, Alcan opted to build Laterrière instead. We have no base expansion. A large open pit recovering nickel as a nickel-iron awaruite concentrate with minimal sulphur content. There are no comparable nickel concentrates to guide offtake terms and we have assumed a net payability of 75%.
