The Energy Transition is unfolding more slowly than expected. The upstream oil industry faces an enormous challenge: meeting the nearly 1,000 billion barrels of liquids demand through 2050 whilst today's onstream fields fall short by almost 300 billion barrels under current development plans. Gas demand is more resilient, with demand continuing to grow well into the 2040s at our base case.
Meeting oil and gas demand will require a combination of improved recovery from existing fields, developing contingent resources and finding new resources. Furthermore, unlocking newer, lower carbon markets, such as geothermal, will be essential to meet the world’s growing demand for energy.
Register your interest to attend our London Upstream Subsurface Breakfast Briefing on the 29th October, where our Subsurface team will be covering:
- Horizons: Every last drop – We will discuss how better recovery from onstream fields has the potential to meet any oil supply shortfall for decades to come
- Exploration trends - We will highlight the key global exploration trends over the last decade, uncovering the regions and reasons behind exploration success. Our focus then shifts to the "who" as we dive into the explorers and peer groups that are creating the most value through the drill bit.
- Unlocking geothermal’s growth opportunity- We will explore developing geothermal technologies and market expansion opportunities across key growth regions and provide a global snapshot of recent natural hydrogen exploration activity.
Register your interest to attend now via the form on this page. A member of the team will then reach out with further information.
