Rory leads Wood Mackenzie’s Power & Renewables Consulting team for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
With over 20 years’ experience as an analyst and consultant, largely focused on clean power technologies, Rory is a recognised expert in power system flexibility and energy storage. His career includes roles at Ofgem, the UK energy regulator, and in commercial asset portfolio development at a growth-stage power technology company.
Rory advises clients on growth strategy, transactions, commercial due diligence, and market entry. Recent projects include:
- Portfolio due diligence & valuation – Iberian wind, solar, storage, hydro assets valued at ~$700M
- Capital raise due diligence – for a BESS integrator’s global expansion including full entity valuation and market assessment.
- CCGT buy-side due diligence – on assets exceeding $2B in value for both utility and fund investors.
- Strategic acquisition due diligence – advising a major energy company on the purchase of a global IPP with >15 GW operational capacity and a significant pipeline including networks and renewables manufacturing.
- BESS revenue optimisation & valuation – customised model build-out to support commercial due diligence across global markets.
- Emerging market investment fund strategy development – assisting various funds understand and target low carbon opportunities to support Africa’s energy transition
- Equity Traded Fund development and management – working with a leading ETF provider to build out a basket of power, renewables, storage and energy transition metals focused funds leading to AUM of ~$450M
- Corporate strategy development – for a major European renewable IPP, covering opportunity prioritisation, capability mapping, peer review, and recommendations subsequently adopted into core strategy.
