Despite the pandemic raging on in the past two and half years, the global sustainability effort has actually intensified. In fact, because of the pandemic and the subsequent recovery in economic activities as restrictions ease, there is now more awareness of the urgency of the issue, and there are more efforts to achieve ambitious aims. While the challenges remain daunting and the dream to create a truly circular economy in the polyester chain may not materialise soon, there is hope that many of these efforts can bear fruit in the longer term towards 2040.
