Byerwen Phase 2 coal mine
Report summary
Byerwen is a surface coal mine, which started production towards the end of 2017. The mine produces hard coking coal and thermal coal for the export market. Byerwen is located in the Bowen Basin of Queensland 20 kilometres west of Glenden. Byerwen covers the mining leases MLA 10355, ML 10356, MLA 10357, MLA 70434, ML 70435 and MLA 70436. The mine secured its environmental approval from the Queensland government in July 2014 and its mining leases were granted in April 2017. We have separated the Byerwen mine analysis into two - Byerwen Phase 1 and Byerwen Phase 2.
