Ensham coal mine

Report summary

Ensham is a surface mine located in the southern Bowen Basin. It used to be one of Queensland's largest thermal coal exporters, with marketable production in excess of 8 Mtpa in 2005. But output from the mine decreased significantly since then due to rising costs associated with a high strip ratio. Ensham covers three adjoining mining leases: Ensham 1 ML7459, Ensham 2 ML7460 and Yongala ML70049.
