Australian PLV HCC prices rose in December amid supply disruption in Australia, caused by cyclone Jasper and associated congestion at Queensland ports. PLV HCC price may gain further strength in the near term if there is an industrial strike at BMA mines by the end of December. India remains focal to the seaborne market, and we expect Indian demand to improve in Q1 2024 due to strengthening domestic steel prices and improving construction activity ahead of general elections in 2024. Chinese metallurgical coal imports may ease in Q1 2024 due to healthy restocking ahead of the Chinese New Year.
