Coal import restrictions continued to spread across various ports in China over the last month, with the goal of containing ports from further exceeding last year’s import levels. However, this year’s restrictions haven’t caused quite the same stir in the international market as they did at the end of last year. Restrictions aren’t as tight since many ports have not yet exceeded 2018 levels so there is some flexibility. The more concerning development for exporters has been the steady fall in domestic coal prices in China.
