On 21 May, the Labor Party declared victory in Australia’s federal election, marking an end to the incumbent Liberal-National Coalition, which held power since 2013. The election result highlighted a swing towards minor parties, including several independent candidates, and the Greens. As of 27 May, the Labor party had secured 75 seats, 1 short of forming an outright majority in the House of Representatives, although 4 seats are yet to be called with 77% of the vote counted. One thing was certain, the people of Australia voted for change. What might this mean for Australia’s mining and energy sector?
