Mina Norte is a surface mine that uses typical truck-and-shovel mining methods to extract seams that dip at relatively steep angles. Surface mining involves blasting the overburden and interburden materials. Mining and haulage activities are carried out by subcontracted companies. Production at Mina Norte fell dramatically in 2012 due to flooding and landslides. Additionally, poor mining techniques have further limited output. After an increase in investment, we forecast production to steadily grown until 2020.
