Commodity Market Report
North America coal short-term outlook December 2020: High hopes for low temperatures
Report summary
Coal producers are slowly increasing supply to better match upcoming winter demand levels. However, the vast supply cuts seen earlier in the year could leave generators vulnerable in the upcoming months. The shoulder season crept far into November with above average temperatures, but winter weather has begun showing slightly more consistency in December. As peak heating demand approaches, generators will be cautious with their stockpile withdrawals despite coal being competitive natural gas prices.
