Commodity Market Report
North America short-term outlook February 2022
Report summary
Coal-fired generation dropped off in February and will continue to decline through the shoulder months. However, overall, coal generation and coal production will climb this year compared to 2021. Most thermal coal producers are growing their labour forces and increasing output where possible to deliver more committed volumes to domestic EGUs at attractive prices. Exercising discipline, producers will lack extra uncommitted coal to meet any unexpected demand.
