Thermal coal outlook under the accelerated energy transition scenario

We have explored an alternative scenario, beyond our base case, whereby the world follows a 1.5-degree warming pathway. This scenario, published by Wood Mackenzie’s Energy Transition team, identifies what actions must be taken to reduce emissions and achieve the target warming temperature. This scenario requires an immediate, sharp decline in thermal coal consumption with enormous implications for trade and prices.
