Asset Report
Zambeze coal mine
Report summary
The Zambeze project is located in the Tete Province and covers the 4695C mining lease (formerly 946L), an area of 26,825 hectares. In October 2014, Rio Tinto completed the sale of its interests in Mozambique to International Coal Ventures Limited (ICVL). Zambeze has a significant resource that could allow it to become Mozambique's second largest export coal operation, exporting hard coking and high-ash thermal coal. We have removed a forecast start date for the project due to weaker market demand and significant uncertainty around development of the mine and new rail and port infrastructure.
