Chevron’s announcement to offer its 16.7% stake in the North West Shelf (NWS) LNG project for sale is set to change the ownership structure of Australia's most established LNG project. The NWS joint venture partners have pre-emption rights, but other companies will also want to take a look. The sale is unlikely to signal the start of any significant pull back from Australian LNG by the Majors. Australia remains core and while investment has peaked, we can expect Big Oil to be at the heart of Australian LNG supply for years to come.
