2024 was a pivotal year for accelerating CCUS efforts. US federal elections prompted uncertainty, and extended global geopolitical vulnerabilities along with delayed policy progress impacted the positive momentum for CCUS. Whilst fewer FIDs were taken than expected, 650 Mtpa of new project capacities were added into Lens Carbon. DAC and BECCS were strong themes among new projects, especially in North America and Europe. Improved support in global policy saw progress on trade agreements in Europe and MoUs advancing in APAC under the London Protocol. Powered by Lens Carbon, our review of 2024 highlights the key themes and trends for the global CCUS industry, including the project pipeline, CO2 storage licensing, policy and regulation, and corporate and M&A.
