Coronavirus: impact on US gas markets
Report summary
US domestic gas demand has so far not been drastically impacted by the coronavirus pandemic that has resulted in wide scale closures and social distancing measures. Demand loss seen so far is likely more tied to milder than normal weather. As we move into April, the impacts of weather will diminish and provide a better view into non-weather demand trends. Additionally, record low gas prices are resulting in high levels of economic coal-to-gas displacement that may mask underlying gas burn impacts for power demand.
