End of storage fill 2020 - Ukraine increases Europe's supply availability
Report summary
At the end of October 2020, Europe had 102 bcm of gas in store, more than 93% capacity. This is only 2 bcm lower than the record set in 2019. In addition, Ukraine with 27 bcm in store, 6 bcm more than 2019, was used to support the European market to a far greater extent than in previous years. A combination of factors has brought about this record availability for the winter. The outlook for storage for the coming winter is uncertain with a range of potential issues including weather severity, impact of Coronavirus on demand, LNG supply availability and wholesale pricing impacting the market. The additional factor of supply from Ukraine will also play a role in Europe's gas balance.
