The coming year will see the global gas market transition away from years of tightness to a period of increased LNG supply. With the European market central to worldwide balancing, much of the change will play out in the EU and the surrounding hubs. As such, we analyse five things to look out for in European gas and LNG in 2026. These range from why Europe will import record amounts of LNG yet again, to how fundamentals could alter should the war in Ukraine come to an end. We’ll also focus on how demand in the EU and UK will perform and what will change in the gas supply mix in Türkiye. Finally, we will highlight why EU environmental rules will be diluted to secure LNG supply for years to come.

Table of contents

  • LNG arrivals will break new records
  • Changing gas and LNG fundamentals if Ukraine war ends
  • Gas demand will hardly grow despite falling prices
  • Türkiye’s gas supply mix will evolve
  • EU sustainability rules will be watered down
