Is Haynesville development in danger?

As one of the most important gas producing basins in North America, the Haynesville will play a critical role supporting growing LNG exports on the Gulf Coast. However, pipeline development in this prolific, dry gas-producing shale play has recently been marred by legal and regulatory challenges that could threaten the ability of supply to reach LNG demand growth materializing just to its south. On 10 April 2024, Louisiana’s Second Circuit Court of Appeal overturned a year-old ruling that had blocked DT Midstream from crossing Energy Transfer’s Tiger Pipeline in DeSoto Parish – the heart of Haynesville producing activity. This appears to be a clear victory for pipeline companies developing similar projects in the region. However, the reality is not that simple. Legal and regulatory roadblocks remain that could continue to impact regional pipeline development and have broad domestic, or even global, implications.
