Midship under construction: what does it mean for the Mid-Continent?
Report summary
Construction of Cheniere’s Midship Pipeline is now only a few months away from its target completion date. SCOOP-STACK gas production had been growing rapidly between 2012 and 2016, and Midship was first proposed to relieve the Mid-Continent from possible pipe constraints and therefore pressure on the Mid-Continent basis. However, drilling activities in SCOOP-STACK are slowing down and spare capacities on the downstream pipelines that Midship connects to have changed since Midship was first proposed. Now that the overall picture has changed, will Midship still be able to fill up and help Mid-Con basis recover when it comes online? In this insight, we review how much Midship will be utilized and how it will impact Mid-Con basis and regional flow dynamics.
