North America gas weekly update: Freeport LNG restart worries mounting
Report summary
Freeport LNG’s “early to mid-November” restart guidance is at risk. Without a regulatory restart approval so far, early November seems out of the window. Not surprisingly, the Prism Brillance tanker that has been at anchor near Freeport since 18 October is now destined for “Lake Charles” instead. The NYMEX November 2022 contract fell below $5/mmbtu before expiring near $5.19/mmbtu. The now prompt December 2022 contract started off with a boost to as high $6.40/mmbtu on slightly less bearish November weather forecasts, before collapsing to its current mark in the $5.70’s. North America gas markets now ask: • When will Freeport LNG restart and are further delays possible? • Will record US gas production ramp up seasonally even higher? • When will colder-than-normal temperatures start to appear?
