Southeast Asia’s gas demand is expected to grow by 88% to 2050, driven by the developing markets of Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Mature markets of Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia will also see gas’ continued role especially in the power sector driven by coal-to-gas switching as well as playing a complementary role with renewables. In this report, we explore further the key drivers of the gas and LNG markets for six countries in the region (Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines) over the long-term to 2050. Key topics and questions include: Which sectors are driving the gas demand? How does LNG compete with domestic supply? How does gas fit in the region’s energy transition path?
