Southern Cone: Argentina’s gas market challenges
Report summary
In this insight, we analyse gas balances in Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina. The focus is on Argentina due to Vaca Muerta making productivity gains in recent months similar to top US plays, as well as early evidence of a potential ramp-up of shale gas production that could change the piped gas trade in the region and risk LNG imports. However, there are still some market, regulatory and contractual challenges that Argentina needs to overcome to tap Vaca Muerta's potential.
