The Balticconnector outage: what is the short-term impact in Finland and the Baltic Region?

The pipeline connecting the gas transmission networks of Finland and Estonia was taken offline on 8 October following an unusual pressure drop owing to a leak. TTF day-ahead prices increased almost 40% in the first two days of that week. Although, it is unclear how much of that increase was driven by this event, and Finland gas prices premium started to feature a strong premium. In this insight, we explore how Finland is managing to ensure LNG supply through winter after the Balticonnector outage, the influence of this event on gas prices, and what remaining gas infrastructure will support the Baltics' gas balance.
