The economics of Canadian LNG: can we do better?
Report summary
The outlook for global natural gas demand is robust and the market will continue to rely on LNG exports to support growth. How could Canada fit into this picture? The Canadian LNG industry has been building momentum following LNG Canada's FID decision in 2018, but project development looks pale in comparison to the exuberance in the US Gulf Coast. Woodfibre looks to be the only Canadian project that could take FID in 2019 and the perception for Canadian projects seems to stay focused on its high cost structure. Wood Mackenzie presented at the 7th Canada Gas and LNG Conference in Vancouver, BC in May 2019 to discuss where in the LNG value chain could Canadian projects increase its competitive advantage over US projects.
