Colombia's SPEC LNG import terminal started operations in November 2016 in Cartagena on the Atlantic coast. This project was envisioned to counter declining indigenous gas production and concerns over weather driven power supply volatility as well as provide a lower emission alternative to coal power plants and security of supply.
