Colombia's SPEC LNG import terminal started operations in November 2016 in Cartagena on the Atlantic coast. This project was envisioned to counter declining indigenous gas production and concerns over weather-driven power supply volatility, as well as provide a lower-emission alternative to coal power plants and security of supply.
