Global Energy Summit 2021: Can CCS reduce the emissions of new LNG supply?
Report summary
This is the first LNG presentation delivered at Wood Mackenzie’s Global Energy Summit – Focus Week: Gas & LNG, on 5 October 2021. LNG is one of the most emission-intensive resource themes in an energy company's portfolio. To increase the attractiveness of LNG, many players are exploring carbon capture and storage (CCS). When reviewing a CCS project an LNG operator must consider: • Will the LNG project remove CO2 from the reservoir or the LNG plant? • Is the CCS project for a new build LNG development or will it be retrofitted to an existing facility? • Can the project benefit from tax incentives or credits? CCS can play a significant role in reducing the emissions of LNG projects, but costs must fall and country-specific legislation must progress.
