Insight
LNG: 2018 in review
Report summary
2018 was a confidence boosting year for LNG. LNG trade increased 9% with new supply from Russia, the US and Australia driving the increase which was absorbed by surging Chinese demand and replenishing storage in Japan and Korea. Buoyed by rising demand and strong gas and LNG prices, three liquefaction projects took FID with many other pre-FID projects building momentum and signing sales contracts. Although prices weakened towards year end, driven by a well supplied market, we expect momentum to be maintained into 2019 with increasing Asian imports and a record year for liquefaction FIDs on the cards.
