Pecém was the first regas terminal to be built in Brazil and is located in the country's dry northeast region - over 1,000 km away from the hydro-rich subsystems in the southeast or north. Development of the terminal involved modifications to the existing jetty at Pecém port, installation of unloading arms, construction of a pipeline connecting the facility to the national gas grid and the conversion of the 1981-built, 129,013 m³ Moss-type Golar Spirit.
