Q3 2018 North America LNG projects update: FERC goes big
Report summary
On 31 August, FERC scheduled environmental reviews for twelve LNG projects, giving line of sight on the earliest construction can begin. With a more streamlined process involving greater inter-agency coordination and more manpower, it aims to clear the backlog of project applications in about a year. The pressure on FERC to step up the pace has ben growing as the market has strengthened. The deals are already starting to flow thick and fast. Just in the last twelve months, more than 10 mmtpa of binding, long-term sales have been announced supporting development of new US liquefaction capacity.
