COP24 ends in a deal but not enough to deliver Paris climate change goals
Report summary
The Katowice Climate Package is now the basis for implementing the Paris Agreement. It affirms that climate change is real and this is probably the last chance to prevent or delay enormous damage to the environment. But the Katowice package is a diluted version of the Paris rulebook because what is left out is more significant than what’s been agreed to. Nonetheless, the Katowice package does provide a pathway to move forward with the Paris Agreement. The outcome is a result of active participation by the EU, China and the US, though differences remain.
