Energy Pulse: another milestone in the decline of coal in the US
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
The closure this week of the largest US coal-fired power plant west of the Mississippi was another landmark in the industry’s decline. It was also sign of President Donald Trump’s inability to deliver on his pledge to “bring back coal”. In China, meanwhile, coal power continues to grow. But recent headlines warning of a resurgence of Chinese coal power do not tell the whole story. In solar energy and in batteries, there have been two claims of game-changing technological breakthroughs. And Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had some harsh words for the shale industry.
