Suriname's president prepares for a second term
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
President Desi Bouterse's National Democratic Party performed well in legislative elections on 25 May. When the new lawmakers convene in a few weeks time they are likely to select Bouterse for another five year presidential term. Bouterse has been largely pragmatic with the extractive industries in the past, and no significant policy deviations are expected. Nonetheless, this pragmatism is likely to come about with a certain degree of opacity.
