Aguas Teñidas is a historic underground mine and mill which resumed operations under Iberian Minerals in 2009 at an initial processing capacity of 1.7Mt/a. An expansion to 2.2Mt/a was completed in October 2010. A further expansion to 4.6Mt/a was completed in 2015, at a cost of approximately €220 million. Two types of ore – copper and polymetallic – are processed in two separate circuits to produce a blended copper concentrate and a zinc concentrate. Production of a separate lead concentrate began in 2011.
