Asset Report
Aynak copper mine project
Report summary
The Aynak project is located within a mountain basin 35km SE of Kabul in Afghanistan at elevations of 2,275-2,675 masl. The civil war in Afghanistan in 1989 halted exploration in the Aynak area until a joint venture between Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) and Jiangxi Copper Group acquired the mine in November 2007. Although Aynak is permitted and reported to be in early stages of construction, the project is still considered high-risk considering the ongoing political instability in Afghanistan.
