The Berkeley mini-mill is owned and operated by Nucor in South Carolina and is the company's largest plant. It produces both flat sheet and long products. Flats usually account for roughly 70% of Berkeley's finished steel output and longs for the remaining 30%. The two EAFs in operation at Berkeley are fed with a mix of scrap and pig iron. NUCOR has invested in a new galvanizing line and an air separation unit at Berkeley site. This reflects the company’s confidence that ongoing protectionist measures will continue to support domestic steel consumption across both flat and long product segments.
