The coal required for metallurgical reactions in ironmaking drives 93% of the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the iron and steel industry. On the other hand, 62% of non-ferrous metal production emissions are tied to electricity produced on-site or from the grid, underlining the urgent need for green energy.
