Asset Report
Bloom Lake iron ore mine
Report summary
Bloom Lake is a surface mine operated by Champion Iron located approximately 940 kilometres northeast of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. The company acquired a majority equity stake in the project in April 2016 from Cleveland-Cliffs. Champion Iron restarted Bloom Lake and shipped its first cargo from the mine in March 2018. The project's 2019 output exceeded its nominal capacity as Champion Iron boosted production at the facility in a strategy aimed at maximising cash flows amid high iron ore prices. Bloom Lake had a low restart capex thanks to the mine's already-established infrastructure and processing facilities. In 2022, Champion Iron started up the Phase II to double the nominal capacity.
