Report summary
The Butler mini-mill is one of the seven EAF plants owned and operated by Steel Dynamics. The compact strip plant employs thin slab casting technology and has the capacity to produce 3 Mtpa of HRC. The output is typically sold directly to customers, while a portion is also supplied to the cold rolling complex and to other SDI plants for further downstream processing. Steel Dynamics has highlighted improving market conditions, supported by manufacturing onshoring, infrastructure-related investment and broader domestic industrial growth. Based on the assumption that these favourable conditions persist, we expect Butler's crude steel production to continue increasing over the coming years as the plant progressively ramps up towards its nameplate capacity by 2029.
