The Canadian Malartic complex in northwestern Quebec is one of the world’s largest gold operations, comprising the Canadian Malartic open‑pit mine and the Odyssey underground mine, which is set to become Canada’s largest underground gold mine. Open‑pit mining at the Canadian Malartic pit ended in 2023, with activity continuing in the nearby Barnat pit through 2029. The former pit is now used for in‑pit tailings disposal. Underground mining at Odyssey began in 2023, starting from the Odyssey South zone.
