The Macassa gold mine is located approximately 600km north of Toronto, in the eastern part of Northern Ontario, Canada. It is an underground gold mine utilising underhand cut and fill, long-hole stoping and mechanised overhand cut and fill. The mining method is selected based on the ground conditions, geotechnical parameters, orebody gradient and dilution. The #4 Shaft hoist, commissioned in 2023, marks a new phase for the mine by increasing production, improving working conditions, lowering unit costs, and expanding exploration capacity. Ore is processed through conventional crushing, grinding, gravity separation, cyanidation, and carbon‑in‑pulp methods with Zadra recovery. The resulting concentrate is melted in an induction furnace to produce doré bars that typically contain 70% to 85% gold and 5% to 10% silver.
