Castellanos zinc mine project
Report summary
The deposit was discovered in 1962. In 2012, Trafigura considered developing a 1Mt/a ore Pb-Zn mine at this site. In January 2015, Trafigura signed a joint venture agreement with the Government of Cuba in order to develop the Castellanos project in Cuba. Construction started in the same year and was completed within 18 months and the 1Mt/a processing plant was commissioned shortly after. The company indicated the mine had mine life of 22 years.
