Report summaryProduction started in 1954 and prior to 1990 concentrates from the mine was treated at the nearby Pirdrop smelter. In April 1990, Bulgaria banned the treatment of Chelopech concentrate at Pirdrop due to its high arsenic content. The mine was placed on care and maintenance until 1993 when operations resumed with the concentrate being sent to overseas smelters. Dundee Precious Minerals acquired the operation in 2003 and since then has increased plant throughput from 0.5Mt/a to 2Mt/a.
