The Clarksville electrolytic zinc smelter was built on a greenfield site and commissioned in 1979. The design capacity was for a production of 81.6kt/a zinc and 270t/a cadmium. Production has gradually been increased by a series of minor improvements and capacity is estimated at 120kt/a in 2005, limited generally by roasting.
